D328eco® TAC 1 Roll Out: A milestone in aerospace innovation

In the aerospace industry, the roll out of a new aircraft is a significant event that marks the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. Beyond unveiling an aircraft for the first time, it represents the realisation of a vision, the expression of technological advancements and a celebration of progress and innovation.
An aircraft roll out is often the first opportunity for the public to see a fully-assembled aircraft or a radical new design. New aircraft are generally kept under wraps until the official unveiling, due to competitive pressures. For aircraft manufacturers and aviation enthusiasts worldwide, it is a pivotal milestone.
Historically, roll outs have been momentous occasions. Since World War II, hundreds of new aircraft have made their debuts and these events can vary from modest ceremonies to grand celebrations. Aircraft roll outs often capture global attention, attracting celebrities, government officials and even the presence of royalty.
TAC 1: The future of regional aviation
At Deutsche Aircraft, we are excited to introduce TAC 1, the first prototype of the D328eco. This new aircraft combines next-generation turboprop technology with a focus on efficiency and performance. With its 40-seat configuration, our D328eco aircraft aims to revolutionise regional aviation, pioneering a new era of short-haul travel that promises to be both environmentally friendly and economically viable.

Unveiling the D328eco
For Deutsche Aircraft, the roll out of TAC 1 is a significant milestone that showcases our commitment to advancing aerospace technology.
Taking place in May 2025 at our headquarters in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, the TAC 1 roll out of the D328eco will be the first opportunity for the public to witness this groundbreaking new aircraft design, highlighting our commitment to transparency and our forward-thinking approach to innovation in regional aviation.
Propelling the Dornier legacy forward
Building upon the robust foundation of our Dornier heritage, the D328eco will uphold the excellence that has always defined us.
Our legacy aircraft, the Dornier 328 turboprop, was formally rolled out in October 1991, with the maiden flight taking place in December 1991. The D328 entered into service in October 1993. While production ceased more than 20 years ago, more than 150 Dornier 328 aircraft remain in active service, fulfilling a range of civilian and multi-role operations.

The next-generation D328eco boasts 25% more passenger capacity, state-of-the-art avionics and a 14% reduction in fuel consumption per passenger than the Dornier 328, representing the next level of performance, efficiency and environmental responsibility. The D328eco is more than just an aircraft; it embodies our unwavering commitment to excellence and quality.

From roll out to first flight
While roll outs are a highly anticipated event, it's important to note that an aircraft roll out is not the same as the first flight. During a roll out ceremony, the aircraft is typically towed into place, and will undergo extensive ground and flight tests before it can take to the skies.
Before the maiden flight of the D328eco, the TAC 1 prototype will be subjected to rigorous testing to ensure all systems meet the highest standards. Experts will conduct extensive ground testing prior to handover to the flight test team, verifying proper operation to ensure a safe flight test campaign. In parallel, flight test pilots will undertake more than 1,000 hours of advanced simulator training to become familiar with the aircraft handling, including failure scenarios and high-risk manoeuvres. This comprehensive testing ensures the aircraft’s readiness for safe and efficient operation.
Behind the scenes: TAC 1 blog series
The roll out of the D328eco TAC 1 is poised to make its mark in aviation history, joining the ranks of iconic roll outs such as the Concorde in 1967 and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner in 2007.
The D328eco represents a new era in aviation, combining efficiency, performance and cutting-edge technology. As the world anticipates its first flight, Deutsche Aircraft continues to push the boundaries of aerospace innovation.
In addition to the roll out event, we will be launching a blog series dedicated to TAC 1. This series will showcase our work behind-the-scenes and offer regular updates on the progress of the TAC 1 aircraft.
